Alt Attribute & Seo

SEO Optimization images has become increasingly more essential in SEO (Seo optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is a critical step that is often overlooked. This is often a lost opportunity for better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise the use of alternative text for the images on your site:

Images:. Use the alt attribute to provide descriptive text. In addition, we recommend using a human-readable caption and descriptive text around the image.

Why would they ask us to do that? The answer is easy, really; search engines have a similar problem as blind users. They cannot begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse using this attribute, attempting to stuff it with keywords, hoping to achieve a certain keyword density, which isn't as relevant for rankings now since it once was.

On the contrary, high keyword density can, on some search engines like google, trigger spam filters, which might result in a penalty for the site's ranking. Even without such a penalty, your site's rankings won't benefit from this tactic.
This process also puts persons who use screen readers at a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that actually read aloud the items in what is shown on the screen. In browsing the web, the alt attributes of images are read aloud as well.

Imagine hearing a paragraph of text that is then repetitions of numerous keywords. The page will be far from accessible, and, to put it mildly, will be found quite annoying.
What is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute shouldn't be used like a description or perhaps a label to have an image, though many people use it in that fashion. Though it may appear natural to assume that alternate text is really a label or a description, it is not!

The words used within an image's alt attribute should be its text equivalent and convey exactly the same information or serve exactly the same purpose the image would.

The thing would be to provide the same functional information that a visual user would see. The alt attribute text should function as a "stand in" when the image is unavailable. Ask yourself this: Should you replace the image using the text, would most users get the same basic information, and wouldn't it create the same response?
Some examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If a search button is a magnifier or binoculars its alt text ought to be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If the image is meant to convey the literal contents of the image, a description is appropriate.

If it is meant to convey data, then that information is what's appropriate.

If it is meant to convey using a function, then your function itself is what ought to be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility and for valid XHTML.

For images that play only a decorative role within the page, make use of an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or a CSS background image to ensure that reading browsers do not bother users by uttering things like "spacer image".

Keep in mind that it is the function from the image we are attempting to convey. For instance; any button images shouldn't range from the word "button" in the alt text. They ought to emphasize the action performed through the button.

Alt text should be determined by context. The same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text.

Attempt to flow alt text with the remainder from the text because that's how it will be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone listening to your page should hardly remember that a graphic image can there be.
Please keep in mind that using an alt attribute for each image is needed to satisfy the minimum WAI requirements, that are used as the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and also the remainder of Europe. They are also necessary to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in the US.

It is useful to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are stuff that serve no purpose other than to make a site visually appealing/attractive and (oftentimes) fulfill the marketing departments. There is no content value (though there may be value to some sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there's something there that will enhance the usability from the site for somebody using a non-visual user agent. Make use of a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is the middle layer of graphics which might serve to set the atmosphere or set the stage as it were. These graphics aren't direct content and could 't be considered essential, but they are essential in they help frame what is going on.

Try to alt-ify the second group as is sensible and it is relevant. There might be times when doing so might be annoying or detrimental to other users. Then avoid it.

For instance; Alt text that's just like adjacent text is unnecessary, and an irritant to screen reader users. I recommend alt="" or background CSS images in such instances. But sometimes, it's vital that you understand this content in there for all users.

Most times this will depend on context. The same image inside a different context may require drastically different alt text. Obviously, content should always be fully available. How you use this example is a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is when the look is the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes may also be in order.
The main reason many authors can't understand why their alt text isn't working is they don't know why the pictures are there. You have to figured out exactly what function a picture serves. Consider what it's concerning the image that's vital that you the page's intended audience.

Every graphic includes a reason for standing on that page: because it either improves the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is critical to what are the page is attempting to explain. Knowing what the image is perfect for makes alt text easier to write. And practice writing them definitely helps.
A way to look into the usefulness of alternative text would be to imagine reading the page on the phone to someone. An amount you say when encountering a specific image to create the page understandable towards the listener?

Besides the alt attribute you have a couple more tools available for images.
First, in degree of descriptiveness title is in between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and can add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered through the user agent. Remember they're invisible and not shown like a "tooltip" when focus is received via the keyboard. (A lot for device independence). So make use of the title attribute only for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points towards the URL of a complete description of an image. If the information contained in a picture is essential to the meaning of the page (i.e. some important content would be lost if the image was removed), an extended description compared to "alt" attribute can reasonably display should be used. It may provide for rich, expressive documentation of a visual image.

It ought to be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of the image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is a long description of an image...The goal is by using any period of description essential to impart the details of the graphic.

It wouldn't be remiss to hope that a long description conjures a picture - the look - in the mind's eye, an analogy that is true even for that totally blind."

Even though alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility as well as for valid (X)HTML, not all images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

In many cases, you are best just choosing your gut instinct -- if it's not necessary to include it, and if you don't possess a strong urge to do it, don't add that longdesc.

However, if it's essential for the entire page to operate, then you've to add the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a great deal about the function of your image and its context about the page.

Exactly the same image may require alt text (or title or longdesc) in a single spot, but not in another. If an image provides simply no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images might be appropriate to use. However, if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt will be required and perhaps a long description will be so as. Oftentimes this type of thing is a judgement call.

Image Seo optimization Tips

Listed below are key stages in optimizing images:

Select a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You should use hyphens within the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Avoid using underscores as a word separator, such as "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For example, if the image search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's going to assume that the file is a photo, and when it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's likely to assume that it is graphic;

Make sure that the text nearby the image that's relevant to that image.
Again, don't lose an excellent chance to help your site together with your images searching engines. Begin using these steps to rank better on all the engines and drive more traffic to your site TODAY.

Search Engine Optimization

Marin Software, a startup that creates search engine management software for advertisers and agencies, has raised $16 million in Series E funding led by Crosslink Capital with DAG Ventures, with Focus Ventures, Benchmark Capital, and Triangle Peak Partners participating in the round. This brings Marin’s total funding to $51 million.

The company also announced that Eric Chin, partner at Crosslink Capital, will join the Board of Directors as an observer and that former Shutterfly VP of Finance John Kaelle has joined the executive team as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Marin Software offers a browser application to help advertisers and agencies managing paid search advertising campaigns across Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search sites. In the past year, the company expanded its product offering beyond paid search and now offers applications for managing Facebook ads, as well as Marin Retargeting, a complete workflow, analysis, and optimization solution for advertisers and agencies. In addition, Marin also launched Marin Professional, which offers a simple version of the company’s platform for search marketers who spend less than $100,000 per month.

The company plans to invest the Series E funding to support the growth of its customer base which includes advertisers and agencies industries such as retail, education, financial services, insurance, travel, lead generation, automotive, B2B, and local. Marin currently serves 800 clients worldwide and manages 600 million keywords and more than $2 billion in annualized paid search spend for its customers.

And could the addition of a new CFO could mean that Marin may be eyeing an IPO in the future? John Kaelle joined the company from Shutterfly, where he was Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations. While at Shutterfly, Kaelle managed company growth from 150 to over 600 employees, revenue growth from $54 million to over $300 million, and an IPO in 2006.

Search engine marketers and usability engineers want to understand why we go to websites and what we do after we arrive at a search results page. They ask questions like:

  • Are we satisfied with where we landed?

  • Did the engine provide accurate results listings?

  • Was our click choice a positive one?

  • Did we stay on the site or leave?

  • If we left, what search result better matched what we wanted to find?

  • Was it the search results or did we have a bad experience with the web page we landed on?

Both search engines and human factors related fields study our intent.

Author Matt Bailey points to the depth of the importance of intent in his new book, Internet Marketing: An Hour a Day.

“Search engines are integrating more multimedia and allowing deeper access to documents and media earlier in the search process. They are attempting to determine the intent of the searcher and deliver results accordingly.”

What is our intent? Why do we visit the Internet? Why do we use search sites such as Google and Youtube?

In a 2009 ComScore study (comScore, 2009), they found that “Nearly one out of every ten minutes a person spends online around the world is spent on a Google site.” This includes the search engine itself, Youtube, which they own, Google books, email, Google reader and more.

Clearly, marketers want to be sure their clients’ websites perform well in Google’s web properties. Not doing so can wreck the success of a business.

Search Behavior = People Who Search

Shortly after search engines and information sites appeared on the Internet, case studies zeroed in to understand why, who, where, when, where and how humans use them. Hot on the trail, too, were analysts interested in learning about site traffic, popularity, rank and how to make money from it.

Many of you were guinea pigs during the 1990’s when web page backgrounds were gray with black text, and animation, 3D images, scrolling text boxes, rotating banners and blinking images were all part of a typical user interface.

As fun as all those things were to create (I loved animating images), web designers had to buckle to user preferences.

Search engines learned what we really come to the Internet for. Perhaps search engine sites are not suitable for certain subject types when it comes to information searches. In order to improve search engine design and SEO marketing efforts, we try to understand user intent and goals for searching.

It’s been well established at this point that search engines are used by us to find information. What kinds of information are most popular?

A recent study from Australia on who uses search engines found that half of search engine queries were looking for a particular website, while the other 50% were split between ecommerce and popular culture searches.

The study also pointed to what is referred to as “leisure searches”. The findings present the idea of search sites not only for information gathering or shortcuts to web sites, but they’re also sources for leisure, with one in six of all searches estimated as being leisure searches.

The Australian study offered some surprising details for anyone wondering what we’re searching for, by subject. Adult site searches fell into the middle, with ecommerce being second, edged under a tad by popular culture topics. Health, weather, contemporary affairs and government are the least popular searches.

The study stood out from others because it included and factored in the lifestyle of their participants. This is different than user testing labs or Eye tracking tests. To their surprise, lifestyle choices had no measurable impact on the type of search queries. In fact, new questions were raised on user –searcher behavior.

For example, do Internet users tend to go to particular trusted web sites for information on healthcare, computing and contemporary affairs, rather than use search engines? Does the distribution of the most ranked subjects searched for represent user interests or the suitability of search engines for looking up certain types of topics?

Another study (Broder, 2002) narrows search engine user behavior as informational, navigational, transactional and leisure. Half the searches in the study were navigational and one-third, transactional. Half of all searchers know where they want to go.

What Does This Mean To Search Marketers?

The most obvious is that it’s time to accept usability studies into marketing strategy. And, user experience professionals can no longer devalue the role of search marketers. Both camps provide essential skills and expertise needed for web site projects.

A lot of what’s happening on the Internet is relationship building. The global community wants this so badly they invented social networking sites and social marketing to drive interest and generate revenue from these new site sources.

Emotional web design is no accident. We’re emotional beings. Empathy makes us connect with others.

“In life and business, focus on creating win-win situations. Look beyond the immediate sale in order to connect with customers as people.” – Steve Harper, The Ripple Effect.

Despite our developing mental models and creating user personas, we remain on the edge of understanding who uses our stuff. Wouldn’t it be grand if stakeholders got out of their offices and actually interacted with the people who use their websites?

I’ve often wished I could video people who multi-task at home, with one hand on a laundry basket, an ear to the cell phone and a hand reaching for the laptop nearby. What does that busy person search for and how? Can we make their experience less stressful?

Division between marketing and user experience will dissolve as both approaches discover they need each others’ data to do a better job for their clients.

There’s no question that a passion for usability and search engine marketing leads to their fascinating cousins, like information architecture, findability, captology, analytics and neurology. There’s also no question that money can be made by optimizing for and advertising in search engines.

Studying user behavior is a win-win for search engine technology, search marketing and website usability and human factors.

Bench Craft Company on the specialty of vacations

Charlie Sheen’s use of technology and web 2.0 has earned him big dollars and a ‘winning’ formula for his own personal brand.

The Two And A Half Men star has greatly benefited from his own ability to embrace the internet, exploring all the marketing tools available to him. From breaking a twitter record, to hosting his own internet show on Ustream, the actor has done what few in Hollywood have ever achieved. Parody videos created by fans and websites dedicated to his one-liners are giving the actor non-stop free promotion and this in turn has created an audience of marketers for Charlie Sheen.

His infamous ABC interview gave birth to many of the viral video spoofs we have seen of his ‘radical’ behavior, which in turn, has fueled his twitter fan growth, and other media interview requests. With so many people discussing and sharing his antics, his own brand of controversy has been implanted onto the web, and has helped him sell tickets for his tour dates.

On top of that, Sheen’s regular updates with his fans on twitter provide a direct relationship and route to market. Sure that sounds a little cold, but he does have a following he can reach out to about his products.

Looking at what he did this week, Sheen took the next step in his own web fueled marketing campaign by making a self-parody video. This clever twist gave yet another viral hit to his name, as bloggers and social media re-posted and discussed how outrageous it was to see him spoof himself.

With many dates left on Charlie Sheen’s tour, the actor has a non-stop ‘Bi-Winning’ 24/7 marketing campaign, and other celebrities in the entertainment industry should learn from his online success.

As rumors of a later-than-usual iPhone launch for 2011 persist, a new report reveals that the notoriously secretive Apple is being even more careful than usual when dealing with overseas suppliers.

"Apple is keeping its iPhone 5 cards extra close to the vest on this launch to avoid a falloff in iPhone 4 demand ahead of a refresh, especially given the February launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 with Verizon," Analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities said in a note to investors on Friday. He believes that the iPhone 5 could still launch in June or July, as previous models have.

White noted that various rumors have pointed toward a launch later than June this year for the fifth-generation iPhone. One report from March alleged that Apple has not even begun ordering components for the anticipated "iPhone 5," and the device is slated to arrive in the company's 2012 fiscal year, which begins in late September.

And a third report alleged that Apple is working on a major revamp of iOS, its mobile operating system, for version 5.0. New features like cloud-based storage of music, photos and video are rumored to arrive in the update this fall, likely alongside new iPhone hardware.

But despite all of those reports, White isn't yet convinced that the iPhone 5 will be introduced later than its typical June or July timeframe.

"Although we do not have a smoking gun that definitively rules out a delayed autumn unveiling or one that supports a launch this summer, there is a pattern of activity in motion with the supply chain that makes us question a delayed launch," he said.

White also cited sources who indicated that iPad sales could reach up to 40 million units in calendar year 2011. And supply chain sources also indicated that disruption from the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan will actually end up benefitting Apple, as suppliers will "rush to support Apple at the expense of competitors."

The analyst already revealed earlier this week that Apple has been offering upfront cash payments to component suppliers in order to secure components in the wake of the disaster in Japan. Apple has apparently also been using a "three cover guarantee," referring to capacity, stock and price, to block out competitors and prevent them from building ample supply of devices.

The PPIC study Kolko co-authored sheds light on why historically California’s economy has grown on pace with the national economy even though it usually ranks low in surveys of states whose laws are favorable to business.

While the research suggests many factors that determine long-term economic growth lie beyond the reach of policy makers, Kolko cautioned that policy could still someday trump warm, sunny days on the Pacific coast.

“If California loses its ability to incubate and encourage fast growing industries to be here, that would be unfortunate” in the long term, she said.

Kolko identified two policies in particular, a simpler tax structure rather than a lower tax rate, and a lower share of government expenditure on welfare and transfer payments, as means of hastening economic expansion.

Roofing Companies Vancouver - 5 Questions to Think about

Roofing Vancouver - Faq's

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion like an expert opinion. Most contractors provides you with a totally free estimate. Get a list of a few trusted contractors and phone them well ahead of time of when you want to obtain your homes roof fixed to help you compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this with your spouse or partner. (The children could care less...at least the young ones.) Truth is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be seen with bed hair. If you've got a great quality roof and you simply have to repair it, it's worth it to pay the cost of the initial shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (we hope!) and so make a decision that best suits you and your family well or it'll stand out just like a sore thumb everyday you decide to go home.

3. Should I replace the rooftop so I can sell the home for more?

Think about this cautiously prior to making a choice. With respect to the roofing material you choose, a new roof lasts between twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you need to look into the year of the roof that's currently too deep first. Are you at year 18 of a 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of the 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the quality is the reason why the roof keep going longer, but if you're not likely to remain in your present home for the rest of your lifetime, the higher expense might not be worth neglect the. Although a new roof can improve the worth of your selling price, the rise may not be enough to cover neglect the and that's definitely going to hurt your wallet.

4. Could it be advisable for me to repair the rooftop myself?

Sure it is. Before you need to do, consult a specialist first. You can do it yourself, however, you shouldn't be a complete ‘lone ranger.' With respect to the extent of your repair, you might or may not convince you. In either case, it helps to get a professional eye on the problem first and maybe even a free quote so you can do the math later and see if it's truly worth your time, sweat, and money to be mister or miss fix-it.

5. When is a great time to find the roof replaced?

Weather may cause delays from days to weeks. Most people plan ahead to have their roof replaced in the summertime once they have a friend is going to be home during the day for any solid two weeks. Once you have this era in your mind, create a call to a trusted contractor months ahead of time to obtain a quote. Some companies get reserved fast and odds are, they're probably the most reputable. Preparing in advance of the summer also provides you with time for you to discuss with more and compare costs...especially if you want to possess the roof done by a specified date.

Very few people understand the value of a solid roof, your knowledgeable Tacoma Roofer does. From top notch experience, they will be in a position to let you know the reason why you require a strong, secure, and leak-free roof in your home.

Your local Tacoma Roofing contractor is well aware how important an economic investment your house is for you, especially since it is a lasting one. Your house may have been damaged slowly through the years and also you need to take steps to reduce this damage. For a number of people, keeping their house beautiful is another matter of pride. You will find those too who'd prefer to turn their property right into a cost effective and efficient living place. Your homes roof is a valuable part of your house and plays a role in each of the aspects mentioned above. For this reason, you need to employ the expertise of qualified a Tacoma Roofing contractors.

Types of Roofs installed by a Tacoma Roofing company

One of the more prevalent types of roofs are asphalt shingles, steel or metal sheeting, fiberglass, slate and terra cotta tiles.

Each type of roof invites distinct problems, but they can all be easily looked after with a trusted Tacoma Roofer. It's vital that you nip roof problems in the bud before they become too expensive or dangerous. You can schedule an appointment with the Tacoma Roofing company to take a glance at your homes roof to see if there are any issues or potential problems with it. If there are, they may be able to let you know how to deal with them.

A Tacoma Roofer Helps to Build Strong Homes

The exteriors of any house, primarily the roof and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying weather conditions, every single day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters might be necessary. In some cases you might want to replace them completely. Usually, when your gutters show signs and symptoms of trouble, your roof also needs to be inspected for problems. Whatever issues there might be, an experienced Tacoma Roofing company can examine them in detail and suggest the remedy.

If your gutters tend to clog all too often, or you will find leaks along the walls of your house, it may imply that there's debris piled-up on the top. Loose branches, piles of leaves, along with other light objects which are swept on your roof throughout a storm can all contribute towards damaging your roof, and these damages can be lasting. A knowledgeable Tacoma Roofer will tell you that birds, mice, along with other kinds of rodents often build nest in the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they are great at collecting moisture, which can lead to loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your home. In addition, this may also cause vermin infestation. Following a storm, your Tacoma Roofing company will suggest that you inspect your homes roof for just about any signs of debris or damage.

Reverse Damages by using a Tacoma Roofing company

However top quality the roof may be, it is going to wear out with time. There are shingles which are referred to as "25 year" or "30 year" shingles, but those numbers are just related to warranty produced by the manufacturers. They hardly ever require that long. Realistically speaking, "25 year" shingles won't last more than fifteen to twenty years. In an area that is prone to storms, shingles or even the entire roof may need to get replaced every ten years. With a Tacoma Roofing contractor, the cost is going to be less than what you believe.

If there you lose any shingles, or there is some damage to them, a Tacoma Roofing company will be able to assist you to. Damaged shingles can lead to indoor leaks, since the substrate from the roof becomes exposed to the sun and rain. Shingles that are loose or broken can slip off and pose a potential hazard to individuals standing below. Missing shingles create a gap which allows rain, wind, ice, and debris to build up under the adjoining shingles, which results in a "domino effect" that affects other shingles plus they become loose or broken. A comprehensive investigation will be made by the local Tacoma Roofer, if you give them a call track of your suspicions of loose or missing shingles.

Your Tacoma Roofing contractor come in a situation to tell you what are the smartest choice is for your homes roof. If your roof isn't in a good shape, it's advised that you have it replaced completely. The Tacoma Roofer can take you through the different roofing options available for you which will suit your requirements as well as your budget.

Tacoma Roofer: Improving your Home's Efficiency

What is Distinction between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are considering hiring a roofing company to re roof your house or building then you can be wondering what the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To begin with, the main one big difference is usually that times a commercial roofing company may have signed a contract with and become obligated to a roofing union in able to focus on union commercial jobs.

If this sounds like the situation then their labor costs will prohibit them from focusing on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if a commercial roofing company has not signed a contract having a union they may be outfitted simply for commercial jobs which of course means their workers and equipment might not be consistent with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors in general often run smaller companies and therefore, tend to be more in a position to bid competitively on residential jobs, which tend to be smaller than comercial jobs. Actually, quite often residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, in which the contractor that you simply speak with may be the one that actually does the job about the building.

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more epensive and a larger bond is needed for any commercial roofing work which will make it not economical for any commercial roofing contractor to complete residential roofing jobs.

Still an additional factor is the fact that commercial jobs can operate on a tighter time frame for just about any quantity of reasons, requiring an industrial contractor to employ a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs less profitable for them.

Distinction between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Are you aware that the roof of the building includes a huge effect on the entire structure itself? Damage caused to roofs because of natural or another disasters leads to a considerable loss of property everywhere. The kind of materials used to construct the rooftop which should be sturdy and long-lasting, the way in which the roof continues to be installed as well as its timely maintenance are very crucial. There's two types of roofs which are used on all the buildings that people see around us: commercial and residential. Although it might seem that commercial roofing is performed just for businesses or offices and residential roofing is performed for apartments and houses, the truth is the differences are much more complicated than that.

Residential Roofing by jpignanello

Residential roofing is usually completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing usually takes a whole team to complete the job. The reason being an industrial roof tends to be larger in terms of square feet than a residential roof.
Commercial roofs need to be made carefully keeping the character and reason for your building in mind. For instance, if there is a restaurant in the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes is going to be required. Residential roofs tend not to have such components apart from a chimney or two at most.
Commercial roofs is commonly flat in design to support further changes at a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks and other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is a lot more expensive than residential roofing due to the special tools, materials and safety equipment which are needed onsite. Usually the patching or maintenance jobs are done in segments unlike for a residential roof in which the repair or replacement work can be carried out a short time. This is one more reason why the gear used for residential roofs is usually smaller and less expensive as well.
Commercial roof installations have a extended period to accomplish in comparison to residential roof installations and therefore are usually constructed in large sections. During this phase however, you should make sure that there aren't any leakages, cracks or any other visible wear and tear signs as it can certainly cause considerable damage to the entire building.
It is important to install the best roof for a building based on its purpose. Make sure that you hire a construction company that uses top notch materials and has the best equipment to do the job or your investment risk turning out to be a huge loss later.

'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

AFP
Uyghur men and women chat outside a mosque in Urumqi, July 17, 2009.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

West Vancouver Roofing Problems

Vancouver Roofing

Within Vancouver extra care is needed whenever getting a estimation for a home. A roofing contractor within Vancouver needs to know precisely what they are coping with when getting your roof off. Unexpected costs are a common scenario within Vancouver and every proprietor should be prepared

Heritage- becoming one of the oldest areas within the GVRD you are able to realize that there are several pretty old homes. With a steep pitch roof, probably near 12/12 pitch that basically means 45 degree position roof. The original roofing had been cedar shake looking at strapping. I'm not sure if it was being lazy or the norm, in the event that everyone was attempting to save money but if you have this roof you probably obtained more than one coating on the roof. The initial is still on and a pair of other layers sit down over the actual cedar shake. I've come across home where 5 levels sat along with the house. According to building signal nowadays a Vancouver Roofing company must eliminate just about all levels if your new roofing is to be placed over. You people often pay much more because of the steepness, the actual few levels associated with roofing, the actual plywood outdoor patio and also the trouble. You may be 2 feet from your neighbours

Vancouver Roofing

Low Downward slope - Vancouver special homes run all through East Vancouver. The actual slight problem with these types of homes in regards to roofing is the fact that dwindling roofing businesses out there do tar residue and gravel. The choice you've is torch upon or even metal. Asphalt shingles can't continue these homes. Your own pitch would be to reduced as well as asphalt most likely wouldn't final ten years. Vancouver Roofing companies which have been in the business of flashlight on in excess of ten years are most likely dependable. Ice and snow develop upon these types of roofs trigger mini swimming pools to build up on your roofing and trigger main seeping, keep the actual rain gutters and downpipes obvious.

Skyte roof with obsolete add for Surrey Condos from UrbanVillageLiving.com $119, 900 09/01/2007 by roland

Reduced Downward slope or High Downward slope cedar shake -- Within Vancouver this really is typical on the Western side. There is not much to say of Cedar in Vancouver. There is an extended time period with the 60's, 1970's as well as Eighties whenever Vancouver Roofing companies were not setting up cedar. The majority of Cedar roofs tend to be new construction. cedar is the one product that the majority of problems can be determined prior to the work starts

Low Downward slope or even High Downward slope Asphalt roofing - If you have asphalt roofing also it hasn't been transformed in the last 10 years then you've a good outdoor patio. Because the 70's asphalt came into the market. With new building shiplap or also known as language and dance was the only real choice of a strong outdoor patio. Shiplap moves a great deal during the cold months as well as in summer therefore plywood should be split down by the roofer

Roofing within Burnaby

Roof covering within Burnaby might have its problems and also the best way to undergo all of them would be to work from North to Southern starting towards the top of Burnaby. Within Northern Burnaby the hills start to incline and decline with a fairly powerful angles. The large challenges I find listed here are front yard steepness as well as use of the home, although this may not seem like a issue to you it is a really major problem for a roofing company who has to hand carry your own aged roof up a hill and hands carry your brand-new roofing down the slope.

The hard, a downward slope region in this area stored building contractors away and as a result you have homes that were just about all constructed by separately employed building businesses. There are several portions of North Burnaby that have little contractors houses all constructed together however as far as that Main Burnaby offers. Northern Burnaby has much more fascinating constructed designs and rooftops creating a golf ball recreation area figure estimate in this area pretty hard.

Roofing Burnaby

Main Burnaby is where big building businesses with a regular architectural method of creating the house was fairly hectic during the 70`s as well as early 80`s. Having a shiplap deck being the only option as well as asphalt shingles becoming the choice and positioned on a house. These days shiplap is the roofers enemy due to the fact that the tiles nowadays are not made to work with shiplap. Attempting to persuade main Burnaby they have to re-deck the rooftop with plywood has frequently been ignored and even for good reason.

The caliber of shiplap has elevated levels of this particular region with most of it that I know of becoming in between Six as well as Eight in . which is ideal. Other than that this particular a part of Burnaby is pretty easy to roofing in with access not being a problem all that frequently and a clear design in steep roofing that is clear to see. A lot of Vancouver special offers centered right here in order to with flashlight on becoming the number one option from the unique tar residue and gravel option. Cedar roofs tend to spread the eastern aspect of the area with many transforming in order to asphalt

Southern Burnaby has a tendency to have bigger roofs which are scattered with asphalt as well as cedar tremble. Cedar shake rooftops in this region are generally through houses close to Two decades old. This house has a tendency to convert into a asphalt roofing and many possess alright entry however, many do not and also the roofs aren't all that in order to high. Some asphalt roofs lower here actually have plyboard patio's which is usually a big saving idea for any home owner

West Vancouver Roofing

West Vancouver is really a area associated with valley's as well as side rails, steep driveways as well as hidden rooftops. This is often a roofers nightmare but there are roof covering businesses who are employed in the area as well as know what these people most likely could be coping with. Unlike other cities within the City Vancouver area, large construction companies did not buy large tracks of land as well as build designed suv cul-de-sacs. They do exist but to some smaller diploma than other cities. As a result you'll find in one street 20 homes just about all built in a different way. I guess due to the property landscape it was the only method to get homes built-in some regions.

There was definitely the boom throughout the 1970's by the shear quantity of shiplap decks out there. Most roofs in West Vancouver that need a replacement are asphalt rooftops that sit on a shiplap deck. These people shingle is generally a interlock shingle that was designed for shiplap however no longer obtainable in the higher Vancouver region. Most property owners within West Vancouver tend to be understanding they right now require a plywood deck to pay for the shiplap.

Cedar Roof by Tom Marchand

Several Cedar rooftops appear in West Vancouver but not a lot that requires changing. The majority of 20 year old cedar tremble roofs within West Vancouver have been replaced so you look for a cedar roofing here and there. Changing cedar along with cedar isn't a just about all to common practise and many Cedar rooftops have been in brand new construction.

West Vancouver Roofing

Vancouver special offers aren't all to typical within West Vancouver. Torch upon and tar as well as tiny rocks is available but not recommended. The rainfall as well as wind is commonly a bit more severe in West Vancouver, with the large quantities of trees and also the chance of huge snowfall fall steel is a higher recommendation.

Getting a roofing estimation in West Vancouver can be very different than the person living right on the doorstep. if you have a steep driveway, have a roofing that is higher compared to Thirty levels and also over Two thousand sq ft compared to you can spend more than $ 2000 compared to your neighbor. The kind of roofing and amount of pulsating can produce a huge difference. Within West Vancouver it's very hard to golf ball park a price for this very reason. I suppose you could say in line with the small land you live on and the style of the roof could make all the difference from a high estimate along with a low estimate. Roof access is a huge issue with some roofing contractors having to hands carry that old roofing more than 100 feet than hands transporting the brand new roof one hundred feet towards the house.

Get 3 estimations to check celery along with celery but for the same item, provides you with a chance to educate yourself and get the right concerns. The majority of rooftops within West Vancouver is actually below ventilated therefore make certain when you are getting your homes roof estimation you can see in the event that each and every estimate you get may change your ventilation or your new roofing will not final. The extra ventilation isn't a add-on price so the more the actual merrier, you cannot possess a restrict upon air flow. Sapling particles is really a issue therefore maintain your roof without damaging the rooftop item. drip blower has become the best form of maintenance.
